Does HTML and HTML4 mean the same thing?

This is because sometimes in the HTML5 course, they refer to HTML4. So, does it mean the same thing or is it something else entirely?(Don't hate, I'm new)

It may be lumping things together because it's more like how we actually speak, like saying "hey guys" to a group of females...(heard that in a movie recently).

I'd take all of SoloLearn's course as "HTML in general up to 4". HTML5 would be deliberately set apart.
