How to compress a folder items to get less size.

what is a best way to compress a folder and take no demage of files.
I mean after compress my files should not be demaged.

On Windows, you right click the folder
mouse of "Send to"
then click "Compress to Zip file" or something (I'm not home so I can't say for sure)

and to unzip it, using Winrar or 7zip,
you right click the folder
then click "Extract"
