How did you, in the community, start programming?

I started my journey in programming, when I did a presentation in my Computer Apps class, in 9th grade. I did my presentation on the differences between Java and JavaScript. At the time of creating the presentation, I thought the two were the same. After the presentation, I went to talk to the school's programming teacher, and she explained what programming was, in great detail. She explained so much, that I instantly wanted to learn more. During my 10th grade year, I had signed up for ITF (Information Technology Foundation), and participated in the Web Programming competition in Roane State. I later, signed up for web development and programming, and participated in CodeTN and FBLA Mobile App Development. My team won the first in the State in FBLA Mobile Application Development, and went ti nationals in California. I have learned a lot in the last three and a half years, and I am just begun my programming journey. Now, tell me your story of how you started your own programming journey. I am curious on how the many people of this massive community began their adventure in this field.

I was injured in high school, couldn't play sports for a while and starting gaming on the computer, Diablo, got into using "trainers" and wanted to know how they worked. Around that time i got my first computer books which were teach yourself C and Unix. Haven't looked back since.

Back in the 90s I was working on some online text based adventure games, but the programmer was lazy, so that's when I decided to learn how to program. I didn't want to have to rely upon someone else to do what I can do myself, and in the process found something I enjoy doing. @A_Hook Raymond's for the win! :D Good times. Also, that's the books I used back in the 90s for C and C++, Sam's Teach Yourself. Wish the internet was like it is now, back then.

I kinda was always fascinated by computers and such, so, after a while, I decided I would learn how to make them do what they do at a lower level, programming. I actually started with HTML because... I really don't know why. After that, I met a person, and I asked if they had any good programming languages that I should learn. They instantly responded with Python, and, because I really didn't know much at the time, I tried it out. I really liked it, and after trying some Java and C++, I really feel that Python is the way I'm going to go. Essentially, my *programming* journey started because I asked someone else a 6 word question.
