Where do you think colleges get their "advanced knowledge" from? They get it from the books that you buy from them, which are also books that the public can buy privately for themselves. Basically, college is just you paying someone to tell you to read a book, which is something you're already quite capable of. If you have the internet, you can learn everything they have to offer and a LOT more. As well, instead of being stuck asking 1 instructor at school, you can ask programmers from all over the world. So my advice? Use the internet and never stop learning. The knowledge you would obtain from college in a few years can easily be obtained in less than one year. I'm not telling you to quit school; do what you want in that regard. However, use the time you have in between to acquire as much knowledge as you can elsewhere. To put it into perspective, I'm self-learned and don't have degree, but I've been working for a major telecommunications company for the past decade doing programming work. Focus on your skill sets and not fancy pieces of paper; you'll be able to prove how good you are. Best of luck!
