Is it practical to learn LaTeX?
I just wanted to know if LaTeX is defferent enough from HTML to take your time learning it

It is different, as its main goal is to structure and set up a (text, mostly) document, not a webpage per se. Styling and structure defining is similar in the idea, but different in execution.
I say it is definitely wise to take your time and learn it... if you will be needing it at all. Most applications include scientific textbooks, equation handling and such weird cases as a rare, non-Latin alphabet use.

LaTeX is good for writing mathematical proofs, and usually finds applications in Math Olympiad competitions when you need to display some special mathematical symbol. It has no use in daily life as far as I can see. BTW enjoy some LaTeX!

if you want to write documentation or for something else, may you're interesting on restructuredText or Marckdown. To create the documents you can use Sphinx or Pandoc.
