yes defiently. provides lessons, and a place to run (limited) codes on the go. social aspects are also nice.

Depends on what you want to accomplish.
Lessons are easy and provides a quick refresher to syntax.
You can challenge other users, so you can practice improving your response time to simple syntax and problem (not interview level)
There are simple coding challenges, which other users can comment on. Which helps you be more comfortable in the language.

However, it is not intended to help you understand the theories of programming.

Actor maybe no. Special Effects maybe but need more knowledge than just syntax.
Coding is applicable in life where you need to give or follow directions.
