I'm interested in being a back-end developer but I lack the necessary skills and knowledge, where can I find information on it?

Most of the information online is a summarised description that they "work with the logic and structure/ they make the functionality of software that users can't see but use". I'm a Computer Science student that's struggling to stay motivated because I can't really plan out a vision with uncertainty of back-end programming. I would appreciate the help on all that I need to do, e.g. languages, platform, skills needed etc. Thank you!

You are the liaison between the database and the browser. Your programs take data from the database, do the functions required(like searching for a name or movie, load last saved game), and send it to the client browser, and then vice-versa(from Brower, to function, to database). You'll need to be fluent in databases and working with servers, have a working knowledge of searching algorithms, the rest you'll have to learn as you go. The skills and knowledge needed all rely on what the application you are working on is. You'll use languages such as HTML, CSS, Java, PHP, python, ruby on rails. You can work with the .Net framework as well.
