Sorry wasn't trying to be short with you. If you choose linux and have never used it try to start with Mint. It is pretty nice and easy to use for general purpose right from boot. If you want to start in the deep end, Debian all the way.

its a flavor. ubuntu and mint have the most support and precompiled packages. Kali is great for security testing. Debian is considered one of the most maintained and secure. Suse has amazing server support. I can find no argument to support using fedora. My personal favorite growing up was slackware because it was the "cool" thing. In the end you can install a base system and build it into anything you wish. Most of the mentioned flavors are debian based or were at some time. Nix is nix is nix. Its more about how can you use it and what do you need supplied to you to get going.

I asked this question because a developer would use the OS for purposes other than development. For example watching movies, gaming, streaming, etc. So what linix distro would be appropriate for a linux developer as a DAILY DRIVER

The answer has changed. Why Ubuntu, Mint. Why not Fedora, Suse. There is always a difference.
