Question about the rules of "Discuss"

Hey guys, my name is Lucas. This is pretty off-topic, but it still has to do with code. I was just wondering if I'm allowed to advertise a group on Discord that I'm apart of. The group has a coding section that I thought a lot of you guys would really like to participate in. It's mostly just a bunch of kids that I've been giving advice to and directing to this website. I haven't been able to get very many "experienced" people in there unfortunately, and it's been going really slow without them. Most of the kids in there just ask me questions about things or beg to build a game with me or something, despite their great lack of knowledge of coding, let alone any engine or coding language we could use. I'd just like to bring in some people who are more familiar with code so we can liven things up. The reason I'm asking is because advertising servers on other servers on Discord is really unappreciated, and I didn't want to turn away any attention SoloLearn had towards this server, despite it being highly unlikely that any of you would stop using this website because of it. I do know that there are rules in place, but I couldn't find any. I hope I'm allowed to do this. Please let me know if I can. Thanks! :D - Lucas

I'm glad you have concerns in raising Discord links in here. Not trying to make this sound like a "I can advertise, and you can't", but we do have an SL Discord Server, which houses most SoloLearners and also all moderators for easy communication between SL, the mods and its users. You may join the server, and advertise your Discord server in the designated channel. It would be appreciated. https://www.sololearn.com/discuss/689391/?ref=app

Hey Lucas! Advertising your Discord server should be fine, as long as it's related to coding (which it seems to be), you give an explanation about what the server is used for (not just telling people to join a Discord server without them knowing anything about it), and maybe explaining the type of people that have already joined. I'm not exactly a moderator of any sort, and I probably am not one to be giving this sort of advise, but it seems that the moderators should be fine with that. Also, I have seen people promoting their coding related discord servers so I think you should be good. Thanks for the question! d:

@Lucas EASTMAN I have pretty much answered your question. You may make a thread to advertise your server, in better terms, to promote coding. However, I encourage you to join the existing Discord server and promote your server there, in order to keep off-topic threads in Q&A to a minimum. That is number one. Number two, the server I mentioned has an official SL staff in it, and all the moderators (and that is as "official" and "certified" as it gets). In conjunction to this, I'm not sure what to make out of someone who came back after months of hiatus just to promote a Discord server, let alone what the server contains. Not to speculate, accuse or to place suspect, but it is a valid point to ponder upon. Apparently, this doesn't weigh much if it doesn't come from a moderator, so yes, I am one. :> If this still doesn't answer your question, or if you want to tread on the safe side, how about redirecting your query to SoloLearn itself? I'm sure they will provide a definite answer, instead of having users posting in a thread which god-knows-what wrong answers may be provided? info@sololearn.com

well, you can of course (I am not a moderator but...) there only one rule to it: no spam. that's all. Faisal probably gave better answer though

1. You did not give any of the information you just provided to answer my question the first time you said something. 2. I did come out of a "hiatus" if you wish, but only for a couple of weeks. I don't see a problem with wanting to promote the server, given that the main reason for it is to become more acquainted with more experienced coders. I still use SoloLearn, despite not having save any code in the last 20 days. 3. I never said your server wasn't official. If it really does serve as a Discord hub, I'd love to join, as I have done. However, I wanted to post on the forums here as I see it as having a larger potential. 4. Thank you for help. I'll be looking into the information you've given me. I apologize if I've come off as some extremely self-promoting prick. I tend to come into the wrong situations at the wrong time, but I am very enthusiastic about finding some other coders to talk to. I will be using your server to talk to them definitely though. Thank you for your comments everyone - Lucas

You didn't answer my question, and tbh, it looked like your intentions really were to advertise your server over mine, and unless it's the official SO server, please answer my original question.
