If everyone can learn coding, won't we become commoditized? Could there ever be too many programmers in the future?

too many coders??

Yes, it will continue to get more competitive as more and more people become coders, meaning if you don't have the motivation and drive to code, it'd be better to make your plan B your plan A. Though this always happens with careers like coding. Forbes or something will say that it's the number one job today. Then later down the road, once everybody has went to college or spent years 'Sololearning' they'll go on to the next trending career to get where there is job growth and the pay is good. Just keep in touch with the way technology is going because its like a tree with many branches, so break and some bare fruit.

One may suggest everyone will be a programmer in the future. I don’t think that’s a bad thing: technology is everywhere already, and knowing how to talk to it is very important.

We might have too many programmers in the future like we have too many doctors, engineers, policemen.... But there will be too many categories to be freely chosen. Programming will become easy, clean and attractive but don't worry, innovations will never end!

"Every mind is different" - Einstein So, no possibilities of "too many" of anything in future ^o^

This is something I ponder about daily. The day when there will be too many programmers is quite close. With the advent of application-creator software we are eventually going to suffer the same fate as artists after the creation of painting software. It is a good thing that technology is evolving at such a fast rate. This will keep the demand-supply gap constant. Demand>Supply , Price rises Demand=Supply , Price remains constant Demand<Supply , Price falls Note: Demand and supply refer to that of programmers. Price refers to salaries.
