Need to come with a real time system for web and android like Sololearn

Question

Having been able to write a custom cms for a system with similarities like social site I need to make with a real time system for the website and my android app which will work smoothly for my users. I have linked the two using Json but am not happy with the performance. the app can crash at times and the website can at times timeout. How I covet to make it work smoothly like the system at sololearn.

Any links to sample codes can help me get where I intend to be.
