The day when I actually start looking for job is not nowhere near, yet, but I will tell you, that in order to convince the employer that they need you, you need to show them some of your projects. You need to make something in order for them to see that you posses the skill. Go to the GitHub, make a profile there and start some project. I have heard that many employers do look into GitHub profiles, if you have one. Also, you will to prove them that you can code at all, nonetheless, they will probably give you a problem to solve, and see your approach. If you have crappy approach, you need too much time, or even to look up for the solution on the Web, you are just wasting their and your time.

A portfolio is crucial. Github great place to show it. for Python specifics join an open source project like Home Assistant, and start contributing.
