java is much easier to learn if you have any experience in the basic programming languages like C or C++ because of the similar syntax and the way things work and Java has a large community or forums, which means that you have tons of helping hands in case you are stuck anywhere ,while .net is a framework making it hard to learn overall and it is even biased towards Microsoft

no clear winner here, both java and .net are huge but .net is very biased to the windows envirorment while java is stronger in the open source comunity.

they both take time, it's not like you can learn everything in one week. I am more like a java guy but atm the feeling is microsoft is pushing harder than oracle on their framework, they walked the extra mile to make .net open source and visual studio is in my opinion better than all the other IDE. On the other side Android is based on java but again, microsoft bought xamarin which lets you build cross platform apps by coding in C#. The best thing you can do is try them both and see what suits you better

I should say, there is not big different if java is open source, because Microsoft offers the basic tools for .Net development as free. too . Visual Studio Community, or VS COde, or else). Yeah, the .NET is also open source too, but is is deal for extendig of this technology code itself (as is the definition of open source), not to use it for programmimg. So, maybe, the advices. The first, try some small projects in both technologies Java and .NET too. Not here is online course, but full, with developers tools on your computer, with the publishing and administrating. You will see, what is more friendly for you. And the 2nd, look which technology is more using in your location, if any company would employ you for it..
