<script> is a html tag element used to insert user side executed programming code inside web page to add programming (and so interactivity) ability to it...
Actually, only javascript is available cross-browsers, so last html5 specifications have made the 'type' attribute default setted to 'text/javascript' and no more mandatory to be present, but in future other scripting languages could becomes available (even if the probability seems to be very low).
