Should we continue building more powerful AI algorithms? Would it one day mark our own extinction?

Different articles show that today AI has come to a very advanced stage. And it will continue to advance in the future. But there is a threat which also comes up with the countless benefits it brings to us. The main concern is that, one day AI would take control over the planet.

Many expert scientists an programmers estimate that within the next 3-5 decades, AI would come to a point where it would be completely a standalone system. To counter that, should we stop or change the way we create AI algorithms?

I think that if you are a programmer, and you have a consciousness, than you should think before using AI. AI is great when you have to analyze big quantity of data, but you should not use it to replace humans. I think that AI and humans can collaborate together, but this spect to programmers. AI should not replace humans, but it should help humans.
