Even though challenges may be a decent opportunity to test your skills, I wouldn't suggest focusing on them as a beginner. They will often throw anything at you, and as someone starting out, it may be difficult to fully understand everything given. I would recommend trying to focus on building your general skill of using that language to create codes, and your skill for challenges will follow suit.

You are looking at it the wrong way. The point is not to win or lose, or to "beat" other people. It is to *strive* to attain mastery. To challenge yourself to do better. Getting something wrong should motivate you to push forward, not stop or go backwards.
