What is Data science in layman's language ?

what languages one needs to learn to pursue in this field.

Data science is a field of data analysis. It translates into data mining, looking for new insights in your data, usually too big to handle right away, because of its multidimensionality. This means looking for patterns, clusters, outliers (anomalies) to be able to predict the behaviour of new, earlier unseen data. Doing all this is of course an art in itself, but it is done to bring up more business value from earlier unknown and undiscovered phenomenae.

I don't know about layman's language. But as if you are pursuing a career in data science, I would suggest you to learn Python. Python is widely used in this area.In 2016, About of 51% of python was used in data science giving high competition to R, which is only meant for data analysis and graphs. You should learn Python it has a large scope in this area.
