Should I rather study C++ instead of Java?

It looks like C++ can maybe do more than Java, or should I rather study Java as a beginner or because it might be better than C++? (vise versa)

You can study either of them and have nothing to lose. As a beginner to skme degree it doesn't matter which language you begin with since the point isn't learning the language itself but understanding the viewpoint of a programmer.

I recommend C++ because you can get familiar with more programming concepts through learning it (pointers for example) but you can really choose either of them, Java is most likely easier to learn so it also has its own advantage.
