sqlite is more lightweight and suitable for small projects. MySQL is robust and fast

depends on the usage / context
Mainly you can say: MySQL is a Server Database, SQLight is a "serverless" file based database.
App / Game internal databases for instance are usually done in SQLite while online databases with MySQL (Note that MySQL is not the only choice here...)

SQLight is a little newer too (from around 2000 if im not mistaken) and there isn't much progress / development happening anymore for MySQL...
