It all depends on your purpose. C# is excellent for writing GUI applications for the Windows platform while Python is pretty good for computational tasks (not only though) under any platform. The differences between languages lie not on what they offer but on the aspects that they make easier for the prospective programmer. Python is much simpler, beginner friendly, multiplatform and it is usable both as a procedural and object-oriented language, while c# would require prior Java or C++ and object-oriented knowledge to start with. In conclusion, both languages are used in Web development and Game development widely but the language you should choose depends on your purpose and prior experience. If you are a beginner, you should go with Python.

One of my favorite things about Python was IDLE. Since Python is an interpretted language, you can sit at the IDLE prompt (like a shell) and create programs piece by piece and on the fly! Python was REALLY easy to get into and start learning. I had actually given up trying to learn programming until I tried Python, then a LOT clicked when reading through documentation and I just stuck with it! I recently started learning C# and I have to say, the structure and the way information is presented on the MSDN website has FORCED me to REALLY start paying attention to the minute details of the languages. I'm learning more about programming, design, and being Object-Oriented than I ever did learning Python. My starter vote is for Python because of how easy it is to pick up! (Plus if it wasn't for learning Python, I wouldn't have branched out to C#!) So, do both!

What are you planning to do with it? That should be the only question you really should be asking. Neither are too hard to learn. Every language has a use and one language is only better than another for certain tasks and vise versa.

Learn python, to me C# is death! But I think it'll be better if you start by learning C. C language helps you understand the logic of coding.
