Running a file when you click it

im sure you all have little icons on your computer that run when clicked, my question is how do they make the program run without pressing a run button in the compiler or dragging your code over to the compiler? i hope my question made sense if this has been asked and answered could you send me a link to the question thanks :)

frank icon calls executable file... our code generates executable file...
