How to count the lines in file ?

I have file and i want to cout the number of line that have string that the user will input it.

I have little idea of what you speak of, because I'm new around here, but I'll try and be a bit helpful... is Ctrl + F useful in such situations? Or is what you're trying to do is get the program to find that out for you?
