Do you need to learn html and html5 to make a website?

do you need to learn html5 and html to make a website or do you only need to learn html or do you only need to learn html5?

Learning either HTML or HTML5 would enable you to build a website however HTML5 includes more features. So I would recommend just learning HTML5.

HTML5 is a subset (yes, this can be a misleading way to think about it, but wth) of HTML, so this is an awkward question.

HTML5 is the latest "version" of HTML and constitutes the "living standard", so all modern browsers should be compatible with HTML5. If you are concerned about backwards compatibility (for a real client, not just in your head 😉), then it would be worth learning about previous versions of HTML.
