I think this is totally dependant on your self!!
How much talented you are, how much mathematics you can understand, how much time do you need to catch a problem and solve that, how much time do you spend for coding, how sincere you are to learn programming, how much interested you are to know the unknown of programming, how much eagerness do you have to read article and books concerning coding, how much you practice coding etc etc....

But if you mean "professional" to get a job, then if you learn and practise how to code, how to write program with sincerity and passion, you can reach your aim within short time, It may take one or two years!!!

But you have to remember that there is no limit of learning, being more skilled!!

Depends on the person because we each have our on way of learning. Some people learn by practicing others just read and learn the material faster.
