best tech to connect front end html with server side java? does json play a role n if so what??

I want to connect my html site with my java. I asked sameone about JSF n they told me that they are very limited for a web developer. so now I want to design the site with front end langs n just connect the less java code on the front end the better

Look into jsf combined with Oracle ADF. It can be tedious to get started but once you get a hang of it both Tools offer what a Web Developer needs to build pretty much everything on the frontend and backend. A great IDE to Help you get started is JDeveloper.
