You don't need a graphic designer. Heck, most languages can generate simple boxes and you can make a game out of that (Similar to the pong one on my profile). Experiment with those, and you'll be able to make a pretty interesting game in no time! It's actually better to start off like this so that you'll know how to better handle actual art assets from others when you do get a graphic designer.
