You need to be careful with surveys, many of them tend to be rather biased.
Like 'What is your favorite programming language' - depends on whom you ask.
Both Python and R are very capable in data science. I think R has reached a high level of maturity already, on the other hand Python is still getting huge development investments even from tech giants like Google, Microsoft and Facebook, in form of third party libraries, particularly on the field of AI and deep learning.
