Before css what is used?

Before the css, styling was applied directly inside html specification. Growing up, the specification have decided to more separate form and content, and mostly improve the style declaration rules to handle more complex styled web pages... Todays, css is probably hardiest/deepest than html to learn, when it has just started as content attributes of the second ^^
