Does web development count as IT or Programming?

I'm really stuck on whether to be a web developer or software engineer. I have a lot more practice and skills in web development and I enjoy it a lot but does web developing actually count as IT? Is it in high demand and can I easily get a job? And what kind of degree do I need to get?

The cool thing about web dev is that you dont necessarily need a degree whereas software development does. webdev is a good entry point into the industry, so if you manage to find a position as a web developer, you could transition to software engineering.

if frontline tech support can be considered to be IT, then I’d consider webdev to be IT on steroids!
