Hard JavaScript question??

Question

How do you make things to happen in order? I was trying to make my first JavaScript game and I wanted to make it a little fun.
So I have ... G, R, E, A, T. If you click on R before clicking G, something happens (alert, innerHtml or whatever it might be). Same thing for the others... If you click on T before all the others, something happens. I wanted the GREAT to go in order if not something will happen.

So that was what i was trying to make. And when I thought about it it sounded like it was gonna be a lot of wok.

If you know how that works let me know please.

here you go. ignore the sort function it's just there to randomize the elements and make the word appear as a jumbled sequence of chars.

Farry, is it possible to do what you did on this code? (You don't have to write/do it) can you just look at this?
There are buttons at the bottom and they're supposed to be clicked in order to display GREAT at the top box correctly.
