Why is it so costly for a programming course? And having said this how would you get qualified without them?

I've been stuck in a dead end job for a bit longer than I am comfortable with and would like to find the right stepping stones to pursue the career I do want. Like being a games dev (mobile applications are fine too). However my pay is very little and I can't afford much in the ways of extra help. How do I work around this? Thank you for all and any answers I get :)

Seems any “reputable” courses are costly(by reputable I mean ones that look good on a job application) for example I just enrolled in college for Computer Science and the first term alone is costing me about $1,200 total. I am in the same shoes as you and decided a formal education would best kick-start my attempt at a carreer in programming/development or whatever. As far as getting qualified for such a career without formal education, your best bet is most likely gaining the skills on your own and proving you’ve got what it takes IE: completed projects, contributions to GitHub and such. From what I’ve read from job posts (in my area anyway) most companies require minimum either a bachelors in a related field OR experience in that field (2 years for every 1 year of college) but of course, if you’re an absolute programming wiz and you can prove it, I’m sure most jobs will overlook any kind of formal education or experience. I’m just spit-balling here though so dont take my words to heart haha
