On doctoral degree in science, is it a must to know or able at least one programming language?

I would say it depends of ehat kind of degree you are going for, but i’d say overall, it’s a really good thing to know how to program, even though it might not be a “must”. If you will work with allot of data, you might want to know a bit of python or mathlab to be able to code a sorter for these data, because you don’t want to sort them yourself, or that these data are way too big to be sorted by a human.

You could run into a situation where you need a custom app but talking with a programmer is difficult due to a language barrier, you don't understand how to code and they don't understand the science or what you want to accomplish. So it's definitely helpful if you know how to code.

If you work in a computer science field, you probably have to, but e. G. In chemistry or biology this is not a must, although it vastly helps.
