Learn Javascript before continuing HTML 5?

Question

Hi, I just finished the HTML fundamentals and I am starting with the HTML5 course and some of the comments said that some things in the HTML5 course would not be understood unless one knows Javascript. Should I leave the HTML5 course asside for now and then take a crash course in Java first?
FYI i did look for similar Q's before posting this. Did not find anything similar. Thanks people

Not java its wrong word, javascript is correct. You can study both disciplines in parallel
