How deep you intend to go, learning the basics and symmatics or learning it libraries , api and frameworks to be able to build an app.
Your comprehension capabilities..
How many hours can you sacrifice a day to js.
Your self discipline to stick to it...
Apprx 2weeks to 6months

I agree with BlackRose Mike - it depends on the individual, how much depth does he/she want to acquire in that language.

I would personally say that a keen JS learner, if provided appropriate sources and loads of intuitive and easy examples and on-the-go projects, should learn it to a decent level within 4-5 weeks.

I would mention that with your dedication and determination and a LOT OF PRACTICE, one can become an intermediate professional developer in just 2 weeks. Choose the right projects to do according to what you have learnt and master that to proceed further. In this way, you will avoid mixing up things and confusing yourself and will always be confident to push yourself ahead.

to get the basics enough to at least know where to look for answers? Probably around 6-12 months for the average person studying in their off time. But it is also important to consider the libraries and frameworks to learn as well, depending on which will help you get the job you want.

For instance, I live in California where React is king and you barely see anyone using Angular. So I focus on jQuery for older code and React for writing new code.

Good luck to you and remember to ACTIVELY study (i.e. build stuff) to speed up your learning!

Changes with each person and how much you get in to it each day. It also depends on what you do in coding each day [just doing lessons, practicing in playground, challenges, or answering questions] And there is always something else to learn... there is an infinite amouny of knowledge in the universe
