defintely embedded systems. think of electron microscopes, mri scanners, stuff like that. C is wonderful with memory allocation and pointers and such. memory allocation is incredibly important to embedded systems or hardware firmware.

btw, I am convinced that after skynet the first terminator will be operating on an os written in C (or a twisted skynet form of it) ;)
