What language is the most useful for the area of integrated control/automation systems.

Question

Programming is also needed for the fields of use switching from manual to automatic and as it's not our/my top interest, would be great to get started with a well-matched language with my work. If I am asking a stupid question, I take refuge in your understanding that I am just a new eager here. I will be thankful to have your opinion, thanks in advance.

Martin Taylor I have been programming PLC using ladder diagram and stl also. Actually I was thinking, some other programming language(s) could be used to test an automation system beside of this. Thank you btw
