which language should i learn to understand a source code of linux destros

well i'm web developer .. i have a dream to design and develop my own os from childhood.. but now i have no idea how to do that.. atleast i can get any open source linux ... and modify it and just use it for personal use and feel happy as i achieved my childhood dream...

The majority of Linux is C/C++ and a collection of Python scripts if I recall.
