colspan attribute for rows?

Is there an attribute similar to colspan that could be used for rows instead of columns?

colspan is for columns. rowspan use for rows

I tried using it but it didn't work when I posted rowspan =2 in the tr opening tag, how would the actual code look if we were going to actually implement this?
