Will python help me to change my stream?

I am mechanical engineer with 8 years of experience, working in MNC in core domain, but I want to change my stream to software domain. Will data science through python help me to change my stream.

Yes of course..Many people irrespective of their streams are learning programming.But some of them are mastering and working in software domain..NOTE THAT DATA SCIENCE REQUIRES MASTERY OF PYTHON..
