If they had to play at the same time, you'd be limited in opponents, because you'd have to challenge them *now* and they'd have to play *now*.

With the system as it is, you get to play the riddles right now, hopefully even learning something.

And since it doesn't really matter *when* your opponents does their riddle, the likelihood increases that they find time somehow within the next 24 hours.
