Why are the lessons all centered around calculations.

Question

It is nice to know how to do these advanced calculations in Python. However, I fail to see how this is very helpful in making real world applications. I have made a few programs for my company with shell and batch. These lengthy calculations have yet to appear. What is used often and seems to be hardly touched on is the use and manipulation of text data with simple "+" & "-" functions.

Yeah I know, these course are orientated for beginners in programming and focus on math because think that's what programming is about. I work at a software company and I hardly use maths except when drawing arcs vectors ect.
