NetBeans or Visual Studio Code for Java

Guys, I just started learning Java via free online course that one university is hosting... Now, in their course they use NetBeans for Java. Hovewer, one of my friends recommended me Visual Studio Code, claiming that it's better. Could you please explain me what are the differences between them, which one is easier to learn and to use? I mean, could I follow the course using Visual Studio Code even though they're explaining through NetBeans? Thanks in advance!

I would say it is mainly preference. In school we used NetBeans, in university I first used eclipse (the prof used it) and now I use Visual Studio. I didn't experience that many differences. In my opinion the window builder it NetBeans was easier than in eclipse. Visual Studio has in my opinion the best auto problem solving, but the shortcuts are harder to getting used to in my opinion (presumably own preference). I would recommend using the one from the course, as they have mostly the same tools and on that way, you won't have to get used to it on your own. Changing later should not be a great deal.
