You can't upgrade from a 32 bit system to a 64 bit system. You have to do a full reinstall instead.

Yes, you boot from disk/usb, whatever you have it on and you do a clean install. You do have to install everything on your pc again. So you might want to back up.

As long as it fits on the cd / dvd and you make it bootable, it should work.

Yes, that looks about right. Just make sure you set bootable in whatever cd/dvd burner program you use. ( bootable ISO or something ) Don't just copy/paste it to the cd. :P I mean, it's not strictly necessary, but if you don't then you have to boot it via the boot menu, which can be annoying if it restarts during installation.

I'm pretty sure all files on the partition where you install windows on will be erased. It'll be like you just bought a brand new computer. ( Just without the new hardware ) I recommend uploading your important files to google drive or something, since you can't use a usb. If you have multiple drives where 1 is windows and 1 is data or something, then you don't have to worry about the data drive. But still about your files in your personal folder which is usually on the windows drive. Regardless, it's always a good idea to back up with these kinds of upgrades. Better safe than sorry.

It's not an update process that you want. What you want is changing your system from 32 bit to 64 bit which can be done by reinstalling windows and then choose 64 bit version.
