String Concatenation

String firstName, lastName;
firstName = "David";
lastName = "Williams";

System.out.println("My name is " + firstName +" "+lastName);
Why we write String firstname, lastname???

that defines the type of the variables firstName and lastName as a String.
in java you have to specify the type of variables unlike python.
