What is sap?

Guys I heard sap developer and it is a big software but what is it's uses??

In a nutshell, SAP is a massive ERP system used in many large enterprises with its core dev ecosystem built around their proprietary programming language called ABAP.

ABAP reminds me of COBOL and SQL syntax styles. TBH... I'm surprised that SAP is still so huge today. It had a horrible reputation when I was starting in my career back in the late 90's. However, I found myself having to integrate with their systems working with some of the most difficult, defensive, disgruntled developers ever.

Anecdotally speaking, I've never met an SAP developer I was ever impressed with. They seemed to attract people who wanted to specialize in becoming over-glorified configuration experts of this massive complex system.

I've had some pretty bad recent experiences with so-called senior consultants in other SAP companies that seem to remain consistent from 20 years ago.

Even now, these guys wouldn't even pass a junior level tech interview at my company.

It's possible I've only been exposed to a tiny fraction of the talent from SAP. However, it seems consistent with the first few reviews I just pulled up from a search.

SAP is a German MNC and it develops enterprise softwares. SAP ERP, S/4HANA, SAP Cloud Platform, SAP Leonardo, SAP ABAP etc. are some products to name.
