I want to get a laptop
For my future pursuit of coding and programming I hear around that a good laptop for things such as these is a MacBook pro or air for its Unix compatability. What does Unix compatability mean and how would it help?

I don't think it matters if it's a Mac or PC or Linux pc... What you need is a computer with good processing power, plenty of hard drive space and ability to multitask without compromising performance. If you like I can give you specs that would work for you.

For sure! I'd be interested in any recommendations or specs you have for me

It depends on the kind of projects you will do. In any case, lots of RAM always helps. And a decent CPU. Add an SSD if you can. And more RAM... and I said RAM? Yes, much more RAM.

Window PC's are always in budget but it all depends on what type of project development you're going to do.
But I heard windows is getting bash command line so hey why not go for Windows.

Ok Wesley... Recommended specs: Core i5 CPU, 12GB ram, 1 Terabyte SSD, and unless you want to do some Graphic intensive work then a dedicated Graphic card would be sweet with no less than 2GB of memory...
Less expensive specs: Core i3, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, and decent graphics, doesn't have to be dedicated.
If new laptops are expensive and you want high end specs then do used ones.
SSD drives would be a sweet choice but can be pretty expensive. If you need more clarification just let me know.
And just like @gorlok said, lots of RAM... And possibly HyperV features.
