First HTML is not programming language. But it's a good Kickstarter for web developers.
If you're not passionate about web development than you can look for other options such as python,Java and cpp.

Python is considered to be most popular language at this time. It's a general purpose language, it can be used for anything like from machine learning to web development (e.g Django). Python is beginner Friendly, easy to learn than compared to cpp. But majority of phyton goes for machine learning. Due to its worse performance issue python still struggles to maintain it's place for others purposes . So phyton could be a good option but some thinks it's a hype or littrally overrated.

Cpp is best for gaming development.Cpp is fast and very powerful languages. Used also for desktop application. Cpp is harder to moderate than compared to python. It's kind of version of c programming language but with oop concept. People still Love cpp despite of old aged. Likewise other languages it's also has haters as well.
