Maybe we should start with the easier one my students didn't even understand the simpler stuff of Q-BASIC and asked me Why do we need to write program? , I did my best to explain them and give example also. I have to teach them again from today let's see how it goes for today's class.
But I'm totally with you in this fast pace world every students should have a knowledge of programming. But I have to say our syllabus concerning technology is pretty outdated.

100% should be made available during primary education. =^=

i never teach primary students writing a code before, just high school students.
i think we can teach children with animation, just like @Kuba suggestion.

Take a look at the Polish app "Scottie Go" which combines the real world with the coding universe in a fun yet educative way:

@Ram Completely agree. Education in India is a challenge. Anyways, future generations can benefit from learning programming in schools, but what about those of us who are already stuck at universities. And let's face it, school main kon seriously leta tha Comp. Sci. ko?? Just PCM.

completely. Programming is pure logic training!

For kids you can't expect them to be interested in sintax. Attract their curiosity with a finisched Scratch program and let them tweak it.
They'll gradually get more involved with programming concepts and logic.
Avoid at all cost command line input output.

yes I think so. when I was about 10 I taught myself BASIC using a commodor pc28. at 12 my brother was well into learning visual studio and c++ on his own. I think the capacity to learn is there and should be fostered in those children who have an aptituted for logical thinking.
and I should add my own 10 year old son is learning html and python using sololearn and loves it.

I am indeed. Knowing how to program from an early age would be incredibly useful in the future. We'd have a lot more options to choose of programs, apps, video games etc. I wish I started when I was younger.

Absolutely. For all the 'drag and drop' craze, there are some tasks that are best accomplished via a terminal. I would hope all users could be comfortable enough with programming so as to have it fully incorporated into their experience!
