Is it good to study or write the code?

Why not both?

If you are still learning a certain topic, then of course you have to read, study and analyze it first.

Then you also have to write code or program out of the new knowledge you have learned (practical) for better comprehension and understanding to that topic.

I think, before we read it, and after to write it.
But both are good:
You can takes notes of the read them for better understanding and then practice with codes.

We have to read to understand then try.
