How to host a rest API

Question

Let’s say if i were to host my rest api which was made with JS. Can someone explain to me the full process of hosting one by yourself? Let’s say we start with buying a domain. All the way to being able to access the api from a browser and not by localhost or our public ip address.

And no heroku
